Comedian Alejandro Riaño came out to apologize for what happened during an episode of ‘Juanpis Live Show’, in which his character, ‘Juanpis González’, wanted to make a joke with the Atlético Bucaramanga shirt on Hugo Rodallega, a goal scorer and leader of Santa Fe.

It is worth remembering that Bucaramanga achieved its first star in history on June 15, when it beat Santa Fe in Bogotá on penalty kicks. It had won 1-0 at home and León tied the series and forced a tiebreaker by winning 3-2 at El Campín.
At the beginning of the interview, ‘Juanpis’ offered Rodallega a gift: a Bucaramanga shirt with his name and number 11, the same one he wears in Santa Fe. Then, to the footballer’s obvious displeasure, he said: “Do you know what this is for? So you can clean things up at home.” And then he started wiping down the desk with the shirt.
Riaño himself, in the same show and without Juanpis’s characterization, had clarified the reasons for his attitude. “Really, thank you for lending yourself to a show that, and I asked him in the dressing room, is super racist. These types of characters find it very cool to be like Juanpis, and the invitation is for them to ask themselves and reflect on what we are laughing at,” said.
However, the fragment in which ‘Juanpis’ hands the shirt to Rodallega and the player’s subsequent reaction, who threw it to the other end of the sofa where he was sitting, went viral on social media and caused a lot of annoyance among Bucaramanga fans, for which Riaño appeared in an Instagram story to apologize.
Alejandro Riaño’s apologies for the ‘Juanpis González’ joke
“I am here to speak directly to the Bucaramanga fans about the act committed by a fictional character called ‘Juanpis González’, which I created to represent everything that is wrong for me. For them, this has been a very bold act, and they are completely right. That is why I created the character, he is a sexist, classist, racist, xenophobic, homophobic, disrespectful character, it is everything that is wrong for me,” he said.
“I love Bucaramanga very much, I love the people of Atlético Bucaramanga very much, and I was very happy with their victory. This has nothing to do with what I, as Alejandro Riaño, think. If anyone was upset, I apologize,” he added.
“I also invite you to look beyond this video. Almost the entire video talks about racism, and that seems much more important to me (…). If after eight years of having created Juanpis González you do not understand the end of the character, I apologize,” he insisted.
“It is very good that they respect their shirt, their flag, their city, and we should always respect ourselves for things that many people today do not even get angry about and that I denounce with the same character,” he stressed.
Riaño announced that the segment in which he cleans the table with the Bucaramanga shirt was removed from the full video of the show, which is on YouTube.
