In North Korea, Russian ministers who came before Kim Jong-un were taken out of the meeting room
A North Korean official expelled Russian ministers from the meeting room, who arrived earlier than the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-un. This is evidenced by footage of the live broadcast of the international meeting.
On Wednesday, June 19, an extended meeting between representatives of Russia and the DPRK began. Among the first to enter the meeting room were Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, as well as First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov and Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev. In addition to them, the Russian delegation included the General Director of the state corporation for space activities Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.
The broadcast footage shows that the delegation from the Russian Federation began to take their places at the negotiation table, on which the Russian tricolor of fresh flowers was laid out. While the ministers were already taking papers out of their briefcases, a North Korean official approached them with a request to leave the premises. A civil servant from the DPRK explained his demand by saying that the head of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, should be the first to enter the hall. “You should have warned us right away,” one of the members of the Russian delegation noted.
The situation with Russian ministers was assessed
Russia has ambiguously commented on the incident with the removal of members of the Russian delegation before the start of negotiations in North Korea. Thus, the President of the National Association of Business Ethics, Etiquette and Protocol Experts Albina Kholgova noted that the assessment of the situation depends on the established protocol rules.
According to her, if in the practice of North Korean politicians it is really accepted that the head of the DPRK should go first, then the official’s request to the Russians is fair and one should not be offended by it.
If such a practice had not existed before, then yes, it was quite rude on Korea’s part
Negotiations between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in an expanded format with the participation of delegations were held in Pyongyang. The leaders of the two states talked for just over an hour and a half and also discussed issues of bilateral relations. During Putin’s working visit to North Korea, Russia and the DPRK signed a new interstate Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Putin and Kim Jong-un also agreed to cooperate in the field of healthcare, medical education and science.
Putin arrived in North Korea on Tuesday, June 18. This is the Russian president’s second visit to Pyongyang; the first time he visited the capital of the republic was in 2000.
The North Korean leader met the Russian President at the airport in person. He also organized a large parade to mark Putin’s arrival, featuring a Korean People’s Army honor guard, horse riders and thousands of Koreans wearing the Russian tricolor.
