Apple would have stopped the development of the new version of the Vision Pro headset, concentrating its efforts on a “low-cost” model.
Apple Vision Pro has not yet arrived in all countries of the world, but its debut already seems rather troubled. Despite the great initial interest, the bitten apple hi-tech viewer failed to meet the company’s expectations, awaiting the European launch which could partially change the cards on the table.
According to a recent report published by The Information, Apple is working on an economical version of the headset which is expected to be launched by the end of 2025. At the same time, the Cupertino giant has development of the second generation of Vision Pro discontinuedprecisely to give priority to the “low-cost” model.
Apple “Vision Pro 2” stops
A new report published by The Information has called into question Apple’s plans to develop its own augmented reality headsets: according to the report, in fact, the company has stopped developing the next version of Vision Pro in favor of a more economical model which is expected to debut by the end of 2025.
At the moment it is not clear what market segment the new “low-cost” headset will be positioned in, but rumors suggest an initial price that it is around 1,500 dollarssimilar to a top of the range iPhone.
A few weeks ago Apple announced the arrival of Vision Pro in eight new countries, presenting the features that will accompany the launch of visionOS2. Although the report raises the possibility that Apple’s stop on the new headset is only temporary, the change in strategy appears evident.
New strategy?
The Information’s report tries to analyze the change in strategy: initially Apple had planned the development of multiple models that would create the Vision range. The second generation of Vision Pro would therefore arrive in correspondence with a cheaper version.
Over time, however, Apple has cut the number of employees working on the new Vision Pro, concentrating efforts only on the “minor” model: at the moment it seems that the company is engaged in engineering challenges to cut costswithout sacrificing too many features, then making the headset lighter.
Does the change in strategy mark the failure of Apple Vision Pro? Let us know what you think.
