Mali Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop: seizure of Russian assets violates international law
The seizure of Russian assets in the West does not comply with international law and will undermine confidence in world currencies and institutions, said Mali Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop. Writes about this RIA News.
He noted that Mali is against any financial and economic sanctions. According to the diplomat, the arrest of Russian assets does not comply with international law.
“This precedent is likely to undermine confidence in multilateral institutions and even in internationally dominant currencies,” he stressed.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that attempts to seize Russian assets would be theft and would not go unpunished. The head of state indicated that Western countries that have frozen Russian reserves are now “thinking about how to lay at least some kind of legal basis in order to finally appropriate them.”
