Bad situation for Ferrari right at the best of the 24h of Le Mans: the 499P #83 of AF Corse was forced to return to the garage just under 4 hours from the end when it was on the overall podium and in first place in the Hypercar Team Class private.
Up until that moment Yifei Ye, Robert Kubica and Robert Shwartzman had been impeccable, even finding themselves in first place overall for several moments of an uncertain race from the start, with the only mistake made by the Pole on Saturday evening when he sent the BMW #15 on the wall, running into a 30″ Stop&Go.
During stop number 21, however, a noticeable white smoke began to emerge from the front of the yellow LMH managed privately by the Piacenza team.
The Emilian team let it be known that it was a blackout of the electrical system that activates the all-wheel drive of the front axle, with poor Ye, who took over from Shwartzman, who had to leave the cockpit, spreading his arms, visibly disappointed by the bad episode.
At the moment the AF Corse men are working to try to understand if everything can be sorted out and back on the track for the final stages, even if for now the 499P has fallen outside the Top 10 of the lot.
An epilogue that was certainly not deserved for a competitive crew that could not only have given themselves a joy, but also helped the official 499P #50 and #51 in the grand finale of a race that sees them competing against Toyota, Porsche and Cadillac for the success.
