President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday, 15th, during his last day of official engagements at the G-7 summit, hosted in Italy. In a bilateral meeting, the president invited the German representative to be part of the Global Alliance against Hunger.
The initiative is part of President Lula’s agenda at the head of the G-20 and aims to create an international alliance to combat hunger and poverty in several countries around the world.
Brazil will host the next G-20 summit in November this year, in Rio de Janeiro, where the foundations of the program should be laid, including the construction of global and regional financial funds to support countries in difficulty and educational bases. The country has served as rotating president of the group since November last year.
“In 2024, Brazil will host the Summit of Nations on November 18 and 19, in Rio de Janeiro. In this context, Lula invited Germany to the Global Alliance against Hunger, one of the Brazilian priorities ahead of the G-20 Presidency, and emphasized the need to reform global governance institutions,” said a statement from Palácio do Planalto this Saturday. .
According to the note issued by the Brazilian government, Lula and Scholz also talked about the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as topics such as the political situation in Europe and Latin America, and the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.
During the meeting, Scholz expressed solidarity with the victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, which hit more than 470 cities and has left more than 175 people dead
