In a civilized approach for the twentieth year in a row, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, this afternoon (Saturday), began implementing the “noon work ban” decision – prohibiting performing work under the sun and in open spaces -, from 12:30 noon until three o’clock in the afternoon. Yesterday afternoon, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, was briefed on some of the private sector’s preparations to begin implementing the “noon work ban.” During a visit to Sobha Company, His Excellency reviewed the rest areas that the company provides for workers and the means that guarantee their health safety, comfort and happiness during the noon work ban period. His Excellency also listened to an explanation presented by Ravi Menon, co-chairman of the company, and Francis Alfred, The CEO and a number of company officials discussed its most prominent initiatives in the field of protecting workers and providing a decent and safe working environment for them. His Excellency expressed his confidence in companies’ awareness of the importance of implementing all occupational health and safety requirements and standards in work sites and workers’ accommodation, pointing out that the private sector in the country is a strategic partner of the government in enhancing the competitiveness and leadership of the UAE labor market. A number of Ministry officials also conducted field tours in other work sites to supervise the implementation of the decision and ensure that companies adhere to the implementation procedures. The noon work ban stems from the UAE’s firm commitment to humanitarian standards in the work environment, and the application of the best international standards in occupational health and safety, especially since enhancing the well-being of the workforce through a safe, flexible and attractive work environment within an effective labor market governance system falls within the Ministry’s strategic objectives. .
