Matija Sarkic, Millwall goalkeeper, dies aged 26

Matija Sarkic, who played for Millwall FC as a goalkeeper, died this morning in Budva, a coastal town in the southwest of Montenegro. The English club announced this painful news first thing in the morning, showing its sadness with what happened: “Millwall FC is completely devastated to announce that Matija Sarkic has passed away at the age of 26”

The goalkeeper was in his native country after finishing an excellent season with Millwall as a starter in the Championship, the English second division. Also, an absolute international with the Montenegro national team, Matija Sarkic came out of the Aston Villa youth academy to spend most of his career in the silver category of English football. Even in the 2022-2023 season he remained in the ranks of Wolverhampton, participating in two cup competitions (FA Cup and Carabao Cup).

He fell ill last Saturday and according to Daily Mail, an ambulance immediately went to the scene, but attempts to save his life failed and were unsuccessful. As a result, at 6:30 in the morning he died. Social networks are already flooded with numerous messages in support of the club and the family of the Montenegrin footballer, who is only 26 years old.
