Mexico City.- The Mexican Postal Service (Sepomex), together with the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal, officially launched the Correos Clic e-commerce platform.
In this virtual space, Mexican products and crafts can be marketed, Rocío Bárcena, general director of Sepomex, reported in a conference.
Bárcena pointed out that, as Sepomex is not a business, but a service, the collection of commissions from entrepreneurial artisans, and from micro and medium producers registered in the social registers of the federal and state governments and in chambers and associations will be eliminated.
“The line of business of Correos de México is not selling, it is delivery; therefore, what is charged is the guide for the delivery of the product,” explained Bárcena.
However, sellers who are not part of these registers pay a 10 percent commission, which is still lower compared to other marketplaces that charge between 20 and more than 30 percent, depending on the items being sold, he said. Roberto Cruz, corporate commercial director of Sepomex.
“As small business owners, it is a viable and easy way to carry our products and be known not only locally, but also nationally. We have increased our sales by 10 percent since we have been on the platform,” said Regina Galicia, producer of items made from honey.
Correos Clic already has 1,149 sellers and 3,600 products available. Today, the platform has 900 sales, of which 92 percent were national and the rest international. It is expected to close the year with 10 thousand sales.
From its sales abroad, products have been placed in countries such as the United States and Russia.
Regarding the protection of property rights of the items sold on the platform, the Ministry of Economy (SE) has called Sepomex to the working groups on the issue, together with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). ), Cruz said.
In addition, producers can sell directly and set their own prices, without haggling because they are fixed values, he added.
Sepomex has more than 1,300 offices and currently makes deliveries with the use of 107 new van-type, hybrid and electric trucks, Bárcena highlighted.
It has 12,500 employees, of which 7,000 are postmen. Sepomex-Correos de México deliver a million pieces a day, including electricity bills, water property bills, and delivery letters.
