TO 35 years since the first commercial launch, the Mazda MX-5 continues to reap successes and gain acclaim all over the world. One of most loved spiders ever in the global automotive scene is renewed little by little and tries to perfect many details more and more, now 10 years after the arrival of the fourth generation, the ND. We previewed the MY 2024 of the MX-5.

The proportions, once again, do not leave anyone indifferent. Passenger compartment set back almost on the rear axle, high waistline which integrates the driver and passenger “inside” the car.
The version with soft tops it is designed to give its best with the top down, yes closes or reopens by hand with a simple gesture, while for a more coherent profile in the presence of the roof you need to focus on RFalso reconfirmed for 2024.
The front position lights are now integrated into the headlight, thus eliminating the luminous whisker that illuminated the fog light area. Net of the new color Aero Gray Metallic replacing the Polymetal Grey.
Cockpit and interior seen up close
Some of the most visible changes to the Mazda MX-5 are reserved for the interior, although the format has also been confirmed in this case. All the elements that have made this iconic too are found fourth generation MX-5: from the gearbox with a very short lever to the handbrake positioned at the top and to the right of the tunnel, from the cup holder which can be moved to the glove compartment between the seat backrests rather than on the dashboard.
What changes, for example, is the infotainment display. Now a 8.8 inches with a very horizontal form factor, therefore low and wide. Very pleasant to look at and, above all, it does not bother while driving by taking up part of the view from the windshield. You always command from wheel and buttons on the central tunnel, but now also integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay completely wireless.
Among the various modifications, the instrument panel and the levers stand out hands which change slightly, then a button appears on the battery of controls to the left of the steering wheel which however remains perfectly the same: it marks the arrival of the DSC Tracka stability control setting reserved for those who want to push themselves on the track and leave the rear a little more bouncy.
Driving impressions, how the new 132 HP MX-5 rides
Confirm the two engine options which we already know also for the 2024 Mazda MX-5: a 1.5 liter with 132 HP and 152 Nm of maximum torque and a 2.0 liter with 184 HP and 205 Nm of couple. For the test we opted for the smaller “millecinque” because, sad news for all enthusiasts, the 2.0 will soon be discontinued and not updated to comply with the regulations Euro 6E.
The spiderina with the small engine from 132 HP but it is simply right. Right because it’s an engine that doesn’t put you in difficulty in any way, which allows you to drive as relaxed as it should be, when you take corners in a car like this.
You can have fun between one bend and another without thinking that you might suddenly lose control or overdo it, because the mix of a wide rev range plus the progression and regularity with which the needle rises are the apotheosis of the concept of analogue, unfiltered driving. . Certain, it is not a suitable engine for those who want to hit the trackalso because the absence of self-locking differential it makes itself felt. Well, the latter is an important difference with the more powerful version, which uses a mechanical limited-slip and asymmetric differential.
The setting DSC Track it helps you give yourself the freedom to drive faster with the pleasure of feeling the rear slide under your seat, but in any case it intervenes if the yaw angles start to become excessive and you risk a loss of control. And we must admit that it is also rather libertine, well calibrated.
What changes on the road, differences between the old and the new MX-5
To be honest, the feeling The driving experience of the new Mazda MX-5 is slightly different and we felt it compared to the outgoing model. Not for the change because, needless to say, it confirms its unique goodness mechanics of the graftsstroke and size of the lever, but rather for the set-up.
Slightly harder at the rear, with the car feeling the high frequencies of roughness a little more and being more stable when the asphalt is flat and smooth. Some changes have affected it steeringwith the actuator motor which has been moved and allows for more direct reactions.
We leave you with a curiosity, just to end on a high note: the torque sensor on the steering wheel has been changed, so as to be able to “read” better if rubbers are used road or semi-slick and always have the same power assistance.
Price, how much does the MX-5 cost
To bring home the new little one from Mazda you will need 32,400 euros for the version with 1.5 liter engine under construction Prime-Linewhile for the same setup but in the RF version, the cost is 34,900 euros.
The larger engine also has other prices: starting from 37,350 euros for the setup Exclusive-Line with Soft-Top, which they become 39,850 euros with the hard top.
