Artificial intelligence (AI) is redesigning the work landscape in Italy and around the world, bringing with it a revolution in required skills and career opportunities. A recent study by Hays Italia highlighted a significant increase in demand for professionals specialized in AIwith a increase of 88% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. This data not only reflects the growing importance of digital skills, but also signals a decisive turning point for the job market.
About 20% of professionals in Italy already use generative artificial intelligence tools, especially among the younger ones. Despite some resistance from almost 20% of companies, mainly related to a lack of understanding of the benefits or security concerns, the majority of companies have not yet outlined a clear strategy regarding the use of AI. This scenario highlights a critical need for training and professional development, since only 6% of companies currently offer training programs about this revolutionary technology.
Despite the optimism of entrepreneurs and managers, employees show mixed feelings about AI: 47% say they are worried about the possible repercussions on the job market, fearing that AI could eliminate more jobs than it can create. However, a large majority (76%) say they are ready to accept changes in their professions or areas of specialization due to the advent of AIseeing potential benefits in terms of increased productivity (57%), reduced human errors (42%) and increased creativity (29%).
The new professional figures required range from AI Engineers to AI Ethicists, from AI Architects to AI/ML Trust and Safety Managers, from Cloud AI Developers to Machine Learning Developers, including computer vision specialists and business analysts focused on AI.
Training and continuous development are considered essential to keep pace with innovations, and many professionals express a desire to participate in programs that prepare them for these new challenges.
