The foreman of the missile factory was accused of influencing critical infrastructure
Former foreman of the State Machine-Building Design Bureau “Raduga” named after. AND I. Bereznyak Sergei Korotkikh was accused of influencing the critical infrastructure of Russia, causing harm to it.
According to investigators, when resigning from Raduga, which was developing cruise missiles, he used a personal computer to erase one terabyte of information that contained not only personal data, photos and correspondence, but also calculations for production. According to the leadership of the defense enterprise, the man’s actions almost led to the disruption of the state defense order.
The case against him was opened in 2023.
Korotkikh claims that he could not damage the critical infrastructure of Raduga
The defendant himself stated that he admits guilt only partially. In addition, he noted at the trial that he could not cause damage to the critical infrastructure of Raduga, since he erased information from a personal computer, and not from the enterprise server. Korotkikh emphasized that the folder he was deleting did not contain anything important, which is why it was called “Junk.”
The defendant also believes that his criminal prosecution is not related to the deletion of the folder, but to a conflict with the management and security guards of the enterprise. The conflict was that Korotkikh, who had access to secret data, did not report in 2022 that he went to Turkey and married a local girl there, despite the fact that he was prohibited from contacting foreigners. However, the man denies these accusations. According to him, he informed the regional FSB Directorate about his actions.
The prosecutor asked to extend Korotkikh’s arrest for six months; he faces up to eight years in prison.
The FSB calculated the negligent attitude towards data in the defense industry in other regions of Russia
Previously, another case of negligent handling of secret data occurred in Ulyanovsk. There, an employee of a military-industrial complex (DIC) enterprise uploaded electronic files to a cloud storage, one of which contained information constituting a state secret.
Since the service is publicly available, this information could be leaked, which would damage the country’s defense capabilities. FSB officers issued a warning to the man, although in the event of a leak, a criminal case would be opened against him.
Prior to this, Russian intelligence services discovered a spy virus at the Kerch defense industry enterprise in Crimea. An official warning was issued to the system administrator responsible for information security.
