Around fifteen people died this Thursday due to a series of Israeli bombings against various points in the Gaza Strip, within the framework of the offensive unleashed more than eight months ago against the enclave after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.
According to information collected by the Palestinian news agency Maan, at least six people have died in an attack on a house in the Zeitun neighborhood of Gaza City, located in the north of the Strip and where the Israeli Army has begun a new incursion.
Likewise, four people, including two children, have been killed in another attack against the Nuseirat refugee camp (center), while another five Palestinians have been killed in a bombing against the town of Al Mugraqa, north of the camp.
On the other hand, the Palestinian news agency WAFA has reported on attacks by land, sea and air against Al-Mauasi, designated by Israel as a “safe zone”, although the Israeli Army has stated that “contrary to the information In the last few hours, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not carried out attacks in the humanitarian area of Al-Mauasi”, located near Rafá (south).
The Israeli Army has also indicated in a statement on its website that during the last twenty-four hours it has bombed 45 “terrorist targets” in the enclave and has said that “more than ten terrorists” have been “eliminated” in central Gaza, including a suspect who allegedly participated in the October 7 attacks.
“Among the targets attacked there are military buildings, terrorist squads, rocket launchers, tunnels and other terrorist infrastructure,” he said, while confirming that the military “continues to operate in the Rafah area”, located on the border with Egypt and the scene of of an offensive since May 6. “Several terrorists have been eliminated in face-to-face confrontations,” he added.
Hezbollah
This Thursday, the army also carried out new bombings against “military buildings” and “terrorist infrastructure” of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, amid the uptick in clashes in recent days.
“During the night, fighter jets attacked military buildings in Aita al Chaab and terrorist infrastructure in Einta, southern Lebanon,” the military command said in a brief statement published on its website.
Likewise, he has indicated that the air defense systems have launched an interceptor against a “suspicious target”, although he has said that “it was a mistaken identification.” “The rocket and missile alert was activated due to fear of falling fragments of the interceptor,” he concluded.
The attacks come a day after Hezbollah launched more than 160 projectiles into Israeli territory, in one of the largest attacks since the start of fighting more than eight months ago, in what was its initial response to the death of a commander of the group in a bombing carried out on Tuesday by Israel against southern Lebanon.
Shortly after, Hashem Safiedine, a senior member of the group, said that Hezbollah “will increase the intensity, strength, quantity and quality of its operations.” Israel and Hezbollah have had a series of clashes since October 8, following the attacks carried out a day earlier by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) against Israeli territory, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped.
Tensions have been rising in recent weeks and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned last week that the Army “is prepared for very powerful action” on the border with Lebanon. In response, Hezbollah’s ‘number two’, Naim Qassem, warned on Monday that an expansion of the conflict would lead to “devastation and destruction” in Israel.
Israel launched its offensive against the Gaza Strip after the aforementioned attacks on October 7, which left some 1,200 dead and 240 kidnapped. Gazan authorities, controlled by Hamas, have reported more than 37,200 deaths, while more than 520 Palestinians have died in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands of Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers.
