The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Mayakan Energy They started the construction of the gas pipeline Mayakan Energy Expansionan ambitious project $2 billion dollars intended to guarantee the supply of natural gas for energy generation in the Yucatán Peninsula.
The event was attended by distinguished authorities and representatives of Mexico and Francemarking an important fact in the cooperation between both countries and reaffirming the commitment of improve the energy infrastructure and economic development of the Mexican southeast.
The official ceremony for the start of works was celebrated with the presence of notable figures such as Delphine Borioneambassador of the French Republic in Mexico; Miguel Ángel Maciel TorresSecretary of Energy; Manuel Bartlett Díaz, general director of the CFE; and Layda Sansores San Romángovernor of the State of Campeche, among others.
The ceremony underlined the importance of the project, which It will extend over 700 kilometers and will cover the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco and Yucatán.
The gas pipeline not only will increase the natural gas transportation capacity in the region to more than 567 million cubic feet per daybut will also generate more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs and promote the completion of 275 social infrastructure works.
These initiatives are designed to enhance the social well-being and energy security of the peninsula. Felisa Ros, Country Manager of ENGIE México, highlighted the transformative impact of the project:
“Today a very important milestone of the project materializes, since the start of the works will allow continuity to the energy development plans of the four states through which the gas pipeline will pass; which will mean the consolidation of social transformation and economic development for thousands of families.”
Manuel Bartlett, general director of the CFE, highlighted that the construction of the gas pipeline is part of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s effort to reverse the historical abandonment of south-southeast Mexico and promote a region with solid and modern industrial development.
“It’s time for the Southeast, for this peninsula, which represents one of the most extraordinary cultures in human history,” Bartlett said.
Governor Layda Sansores described the project as a revolution for Campeche, mentioning that it marks the dawn of a new era of industrial and economic development for her state.
Ernesto Herrera Novelo, Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of Yucatán, also celebrated the growth potential that the gas pipeline will bring to the region.
The commemorative event included a traditional Mayan ceremony that asked Mother Earth for permission to begin construction, reflecting respect for the traditions and customs of local indigenous communities.
