Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla participated this Wednesday (12) in a Brics ministerial meeting in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
After the meeting, the representative of the Havana dictatorship stated that he “appreciates the contribution of the bloc’s countries to international balance and is interested in joining the group of emerging economies.
“The meetings allowed us to emphasize Cuba’s interest in being part of the BRICS group,” said the head of Cuban diplomacy during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
The Cuban Foreign Minister thanked “the hospitality of Russia and Nizhny Novgorod during the successful celebration of the bloc’s ministerial meeting.”
“For me it was a memorable opportunity to emphasize the priority that Cuba gives to this group, to its contribution to international balance, to the creation of a new multilateral international order, based on sovereign, democratic and equitable equality,” he said.
Bruno Rodríguez also conveyed to the Russian Foreign Ministry an “affectionate” greeting from dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, to the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, and to the people.
Furthermore, he referred to the recent meetings between the leaders of Russia and Cuba, during which the “excellent state of our bilateral ties and the potential to continue developing relations in the economic and cooperation spheres” were confirmed.
“At the same time, enormous coincidences in the respective foreign policy agendas and objectives were noted,” added the chancellor.
Russia and Cuba are strategic allies, a bond that will be ratified again this Wednesday with the arrival in Havana of a Russian fleet made up of three ships and a nuclear submarine.
In August last year, the Brics accepted the membership of Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran in the group, but the former withdrew after Javier Milei’s victory in November’s presidential elections.
Cuba then presented on that occasion its desire to join the bloc, alongside Bolivia, Honduras and Venezuela. (With EFE Agency)
