NY.– Jeff Gunter, who is competing in the Nevada Republican Senate primary taking place this Tuesday in Nevada, described himself as “110 percent pro-Trump,” but saw that Donald J. Trump endorsed to one of his primary opponents, Sam Brown, over the weekend.
And he didn’t take it very well.
Trump announced his support for Brown on Social Truth, his social media platform, this Sunday night, after a rally the former president had in Las Vegas.
In a publication this Monday on the social network, Gunter claimed without evidence and without providing details that a huge political check had been sent “from the quagmire,” which represents a bribe to Trump.
He suggested that the former president intended to support Brown at the rally, although he backed down due to pressure from “brave MAGA warriors.”
Then “the huge check” arrived, and he speculated that it possibly came from the National Republican Senatorial Committee or a political action committee aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — and that prompted Trump to throw his support behind it. subsequently.
Gunter’s campaign, when asked if the candidate can present evidence that a donation was sent before Trump announced his support, responded “Yes, he can do it, stay tuned.”
The campaign did not provide any evidence and did not respond to a question about when Gunter might do that.
Senate Committee spokesman Mike Berg said “Jeff Gunter is totally out of touch and making false and defamatory accusations against the Senate Committee and President Trump’s team.”
The Senate Leadership Fund — the political action committee affiliated with McConnell, which Gunter appeared to refer to in his social media comment — did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
The Trump campaign highlighted a comment on “President Trump makes his own decisions and this is another example of him doing it intelligently.”
Gunter’s competitors are Brown and Jim Marchant, an Army veteran. Brown leads the polls and Trump usually intervenes in races to support the most likely.
