Mexico City.– The next president, Claudia Sheinbaum, offers serious dialogue, openness, discussion and “adjusting what has to be adjusted” for judicial reform, said former minister Arturo Zaldívar.
In an interview, at the end of a meeting headed by Sheinbaum at the transition house, Zaldívar stressed that a consultation period will be opened to analyze and socialize the presidential initiative on the matter.
“(There was talk) about what the format of the consultation, of the dialogues, will be, to socialize and analyze and to make the reform initiative known. The intention is to open the dialogue,” Zaldívar explained without setting times.
“Although it must be said: in the dialogues for the transformation of the campaign (…) we socialized, opened and discussed this issue with great intensity, also in Congress a forum had already been held by deputy Mier to discuss the reform judicial.
“So, let’s say it’s something that has already been discussed. It seems to me that the people of Mexico voted for this reform, however, the intention of the president-elect’s opening is for it to be discussed, for it to be known, for dialogue and for adjust what needs to be adjusted.”
Zaldívar explained that during the reform “consultation” it will be analyzed, for example, whether the ministers should be elected by popular vote, as proposed by President López Obrador and supported by Sheinbaum.
However, the former president of the Supreme Court clarified, the starting point will be the president’s initiative.
-Are you willing to modify the president’s initiative? They insisted.
“I think that should be asked of the legislators, I am not a legislator,” he responded.
-But what was your advice?
“I did not give advice, we simply… began a process of dialogue, that is what I can tell you, we have to see how it develops, it is a serious dialogue, it is an open dialogue, it will be an honest dialogue with a lot of openness “he stressed.
“Exactly what we talked about is how the forums and discussions are going to be carried out, and this consultation to which the president-elect referred,” he added at the end of the meeting in which Ricardo Monreal, Adán Augusto López Hernández and Ignacio Mier.
