Accidents|The accident happened in July last year at an air show in Selänpää, Kouvola.
Last the causes of the accident that led to the death of an aerobatic pilot in the summer have been clarified. According to the Accident Investigation Center (Otkes), there were two interrelated factors behind the accident.
The skill class of the plane’s pilot had been increased only a month before the accident. According to Otkes, the pilot did not have sufficient ability and skill to handle the aircraft safely in the situation. During the performance, the pilot made a turn, the correction of which started too low. The plane crashed into the forest and the pilot died.
The required air show permit for the air show had not been applied for from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom. Undermining the minimum heights could have been addressed in the permit.
