The All-Russian Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean announced that its experts were able to extract soil from Antarctica, about one billion years old.
The Russia Today website quoted German Lychenkov, deputy director general of the institute, as saying: “For the first time in history, Russian scientists were able to extract soil from Antarctica that is about a billion years old.”
He added: “Researchers from Petersburg and a laboratory affiliated with a Chinese university participated in the research project during which we extracted the aforementioned samples.”
It is worth noting that the All-Russian Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources in the World Ocean is considered one of the most important scientific institutions concerned with conducting geological and scientific studies, and has contributed to hundreds of research related to this field.
