Russian Ministry of Defense: the second stage of exercises of non-strategic nuclear forces has begun
The second stage of exercises of non-strategic nuclear forces has begun in Russia. This was reported to the Ministry of Defense, reports TASS.
Russia will conduct the exercises jointly with Belarus. As the department clarified, they are carried out to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the union state. During the second stage of the exercises, issues of preparing the Armed Forces of the two countries for the combat use of non-strategic (tactical) nuclear weapons will be worked out.
On May 6, the Russian General Staff announced the start of preparations for exercises of missile formations of the Southern District with the involvement of aviation and naval forces. The exercise to test the use of tactical nuclear weapons, as reported, will be carried out on behalf of President Vladimir Putin.
Russia’s exercises with the use of tactical nuclear weapons, for which the General Staff has begun preparations, are associated with the need to be ready to respond to the actions of the West, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev explained then. The Kremlin, in turn, noted that the unprecedented round of tension in Ukraine requires response measures from Russia.

It is characterized by reduced power and is used to destroy large targets and concentrations of enemy forces at the front and in the immediate rear.
