A scene like in a movie: Jewel thieves break into a luxury store in Rome through a hole in the floor. The police are now hoping to analyze the surveillance cameras.
Rome – In a spectacular jewel theft in Rome, a gang of unknown burglars made off with more than half a million euros on Sunday night. According to initial police investigations, at least three perpetrators entered a branch of the luxury jeweler Bulgari through a hole in the ground – either via a neighboring house or through the sewer system. The alarm system had sounded shortly before midnight, but the perpetrators had managed to disappear before the first police officers arrived.
The shop is located in Via Condotti, one of the Italian capital’s luxury shopping streets, close to the Spanish Steps. Investigators hope to get information from surveillance camera footage. According to initial findings, the perpetrators were masked and wearing gloves. Police estimate the value of the stolen jewelry to be at least 500,000 euros. However, it could be significantly higher. dpa
