Bloomberg: The EU is trying to extend the agreement on gas transit from the Russian Federation through Ukraine
EU and European officials are negotiating with Kiev to extend the agreement on the transit of Russian gas to the community through Ukraine until 2025. The agency became aware of this Bloomberg.
According to the publication’s sources, one of the discussed options for extending transit is the purchase of gas in Azerbaijan and its transportation through Russian gas pipelines passing through the territory of Ukraine. This excludes the purchase of gas from the Russian Federation itself, whose energy resources the EU is trying to refuse.
The desire to maintain transit through Ukraine is due to the fact that the EU considers it one of the factors keeping the Ukrainian economy afloat.
Last week, President Vladimir Putin said Russia continues to supply gas to Europe through Ukraine. According to the head of the Russian Federation, Russian gas goes to Europe through the second system, European consumers continue to receive fuel, in addition, it is supplied via the Turkish Stream.
At the end of May, it became known that Moldova and Ukraine had reached an agreement on the supply of Russian gas after the expiration of the contract with Gazprom.
