With the screening of at least 60 national and international documentaries about music and an intense parallel program, the traditional festival In-Edit Brasil – Festival Internacional do Documentário Musical begins next Wednesday (12), in São Paulo. Reaching its 16th edition, this year’s In-Edit presents films about musicians such as Zé Ketti, DJ Marlboro, Arrigo Barnabé, Luiz Melodia, Carlos Santana, Cindy Lauper, Joan Baez, Brian Jones and Paul Simon, among others.
One of the highlights of the festival is the screening of the film Agreement with Lampião? Only in Boca do Fuzil!by director Marcelo Felipe Sampaio, based on the book The men who killed the criminal – the story of Lampião’s greatest enemies, by journalist, historian and screenwriter Moacir Assunção. The film will be presented with musical accompaniment by guitarist Lúcio Maia, ex-Nação Zumbi, author of the film’s original score.
Another highlight is the short Other Stories from the Sea (BNegão Canta Caymmi), in which director Carolina Rolim records the artist BNegão’s dive into Dorival Caymmi’s beach songs. After the short, there will be a BNegão show with guitarist Bernardo Bosisio.

News
The novelty of this edition is the special Music and Machines, which will celebrate the centenary of the first synthetic sounds. Seven films will be presented that explore the intersection between music and technology, highlighting the innovations that have transformed the music scene.
In addition, there will be an exhibition at the Cinemateca that will bring together inventors of electronic instruments, musicians, sound engineers and producers for a series of demonstrations.
“This year we present a series of films that address the entire invention and the inventors, the pioneers, the producers of this music made not analogically, that is, not with acoustic instruments but with machines. And this was only possible after the democratization of electric light, which generated so many technological advances in the 20th century”, said Marcelo Aliche, artistic director of In-Edit Brasil, in an interview with Brazil Agency and the TV Brasil.
“We also have an exhibition that we are calling Traquitanas Eletrônicas, which are electronic inventions made here in Brazil by inventors and also producers and musicians, who will present these instruments to the public”, he added.
The Flashback Show will show classics in restored versions such as Let’s Get Lostby Bruce Weber, and the national premiere of the film Dig! XXwhich revisits a documentary made 20 years ago about the bands Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The festival program will also promote musical performances by Arrigo Barnabé and Orkestra Bandida, as well as debates, commented sessions, the traditional Vinyl Fair and, for the first time, a Book Fair, with hundreds of titles about music and cinema at special prices.
“We love doing side activities because we think this is a way to go much deeper into the topics covered in the documentaries. This year, we will have several shows that accompany films such as Arrigo Barnabé, BNegão, Lúcio Maia, DJ Camilo Rocha and Orkestra Bandida”, said the festival director.
