Not even the renewal has unblocked Perez
The renewal of Sergio Perez with Red Bull it continues to be more and more of a mystery. In the past – for much less – several drivers have been relegated to Toro Rosso to make room for other colleagues. Already a year ago, Perez experienced a very long period of qualifying which was unacceptable for a driver who was then driving a car capable of winning 21 races out of 22.
The start of 2024 had given the Red Bull leaders hope, but it has also arrived in Canada another elimination in Q1 after that of Monaco, an unseemly result for those who have at their disposal a car which also in Montreal in the hands of Max Verstappen achieved the time of the pole position which went to George Russell’s Mercedes to the thousandth of a second given that he had signed it previously during the Q1 compared to the Dutch.
Sergio Perez on the microphones of Sky Sports commented like this on another Saturday from museum of horrors: “What if I left too late? I think it was more a question of difficulty in warming up the tyres, because then I did the last lap, so getting on track earlier wouldn’t have changed things. We all have to be angry with ourselves, we are a team and it’s not an ideal time for us. Let’s focus totally on the race and hope we can save something.”
