Angelo Martins Denicoli was fired from Tarcísio de Freitas’ government after being targeted by Tempus Veritatis on February 8
The minister of STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes denied the request to return the passport of Angelo Martins Denicoli, an Army reserve major investigated by the Federal Police (Federal Police) within the scope of the operation Tempus Veritatiswhich investigates an alleged coup attempt.
The defendant’s defense requested permission for Denicoli to travel with his family to Chile from July 12 to 21, 2024. The major, however, has been complying with precautionary measures since January this year, which forced him to hand over his passport to the Court.
Denicoli was a special advisor to Prodesp, the company that operates data for the State of São Paulo, in the government of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). He was removed from office shortly after the operation began.
When rejecting the request, Moraes stated that the precautionary measures “still prove to be necessary and appropriate”, since the investigation is ongoing and there is still no conclusive report from the PF.
“It is up to the applicant [Denicoli] adapt its activities to the determined precautionary measures and not the other way around”said the minister.
TEMPUS VERITATIS
On February 8, 2024, the PF launched the operation Tempus Veritatis to investigate an alleged coup d’état plan, orchestrated by allies of the former president’s government Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
On March 15, Moraes removed the confidentiality of statements to the PF from those involved in the operation, including that of Major Denicoli. According to the document (complete – PDF – 3 MB), he was silent.
