The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said this Friday, 7th, that resistance against the provisional measure that restricts compensation of Pis/Cofins tax credits will dissipate as there is greater understanding of the government’s intention to reduce tax expenditures.
In an interview with journalists, Haddad stated that several MPs have already been called “MPs from the end of the world” and assured that the new measure will not affect the industry.
The Ministry of Finance presented this Tuesday, 4th, a provisional measure to limit the Pis/Cofins credit system, predicting that the initiative will increase government revenues by R$29.2 billion in 2024.
The measure was presented with the aim of compensating for the loss of revenue generated by maintaining payroll tax relief in 17 sectors of the economy and small municipalities. The benefit has an estimated cost of R$26.3 billion this year, lower than the predicted impact of the MP.
