The Israeli government again criticized the UN, this Friday (7), after the organization included the country in a document of nations or groups that harm children in conflict zones, in the so-called Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflicts.
After learning of the inclusion on the list, which includes Hamas and other terrorist groups, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended that his Army is “the most moral in the world”.
“The UN today entered history’s shame list when it joined the supporters of the Hamas killers. The Israel Defense Forces are the most moral army in the world and no delusional decision by the UN will change that,” the office said in a statement of the prime minister.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this Friday that its ambassador to the United Nations in New York, Gilad Erdan, received an official message from the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, informing him of Israel’s inclusion on that list.
“The person on the ‘dirty list’ is the secretary general, who encourages terrorism and whose decisions are motivated by hatred of Israel,” said the ambassador in a statement.
“What a shame! The Secretary-General’s decisions only give terrorists hope to survive, encourage them to use children for terrorism and prolong the war,” he added.
The Israeli press reported that Guterres had already informed the defense attaché at the Israeli embassy in the US, General Hidai Zilberman, of the inclusion on that list, which includes Afghanistan, Myanmar and Somalia, as well as terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State.
