Oncologist Evstratov: in the future individual cancer vaccines will be used
In the future, doctors will use individual cancer vaccines for each patient, says Roman Evstratov, candidate of medical sciences and oncologist at the Euroonko clinic. The expert spoke about the prospects of combating a common fatal disease in a conversation with Lenta.ru, commenting on the news about the testing of the development by Russian scientists of a new vaccine against all types of cancer.
Evstratov believes that the future in the treatment of cancer lies in immunotherapy. He explained that cancer occurs because the body at some point stops recognizing cells as malignant, and with this technique it will learn to recognize tumor cells and destroy them.
Individual vaccines will come to the rescue in the fight against cancer by delivering mRNA molecules encoding the antigen to immune cells. The developed mRNA will be used as a blueprint to create a foreign protein, which is usually produced by a pathogen (cancer cell or virus)
Thus, according to the expert, the tumor itself will teach the human immune system to recognize malignant cells and turn its work to fight them. The body will recognize and destroy cancer cells without external help.
“This will be an individual vaccine, different for each person. I wish the team of scientists success in their future work, and we all hope that a new round of history in the treatment of cancer is coming. This development will be the most important achievement of medical science,” the oncologist concluded.

Earlier on June 6, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gintsburg reported about the development by Russian scientists of a new vaccine against all types of cancer. The drug has already proven its effectiveness in mice. It is planned that after all trials are completed, individual vaccines will be created for cancer patients based on the universal medicine.
