Sainz, the desire for half an F1
As we have reported several times, for Carlos Sainz there would have been no future as a teammate of Max Verstappen, while the road leading to Mercedes is hindered by the Brackley team’s desire to focus on Andrea Kimi Antonelli. However, it is clear that Mercedes is the number one option for the Spaniard if he wants to avoid a 2025 in the second half of the grid. It would end there if he landed in Williamsan option that has a charm for Sainz (linked to the history of the team) but which would certainly force him to make a sacrifice in terms of competitiveness.
Sainz’s words
For this reason, in Montreal, the current Ferrari driver responded with irony to the rumors of those who claimed that he had already signed for the Grove team: “The only thing I can say is that nothing has been closed. I saw articles in the media saying I had signed. It makes me laugh, months ago they said I had signed for Mercedes or Red Bull, and now obviously that’s not the case. Now people say I signed for Williams and it makes me laugh“.
“It worries me that people can get away with this kind of thing. When I have something to announce, you will be the first to know and I will talk about it openly. I can say that all the options I have on the table are good. Whoever I have spoken to, I feel appreciated and this makes me positive for the future”.
A 2025 of passion?
Sainz will most likely be the driver who will “lose” competitiveness the most in the market carousel. The #55 leaves a Ferrari (which he himself helped bring back to the top after a four-year journey) to join a team that at best is in difficulty (Mercedes) and at worst will sacrifice 2025 to focus on the new cars of 2026.
