The spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza, Hisham Muhanna, said that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating for the worse as a result of the continuation of hostilities in the northern Gaza Strip, especially in the areas surrounding the Jabalia camp and the Al-Zaytoun and Sabra neighborhoods, in addition to the collapse of the situation in the city of Rafah as a result of displacement.
Muhanna explained in statements to Al-Ittihad that some hospitals in northern Gaza were severely affected by the hostilities, such as Kamal Adwan Hospital and Al-Awda Hospital, and there are huge numbers of injured people who do not receive medical care as a result of the decline in the hospitals’ ability to provide services and the lack of medical supplies or procedures. Regarding the situation in the city of Rafah, Muhanna indicated that the rate of displacement from Rafah exceeded 900,000 people from various parts of the city towards the west on the coastal strip of the city and towards the city of Khan Yunis in what is known as the “Al-Mawasi” area, most of which are sand dunes, devoid of basic infrastructure, and there is not enough water. For drinking, there are no medical services or food sufficient for these large numbers.
The regional spokesman for the Red Cross pointed out that the Rafah crossing is the main gate through which humanitarian support and relief teams were entering, which began their work from field hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, pointing out the deterioration of the health condition of a large number of patients and wounded who were supposed to leave Gaza through the crossing. Rafah, and now hope has dissipated about when the crossing will open again for departure.
He stressed that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating day after day, with the massive human overcrowding increasing, with hundreds of thousands of people living in worse humanitarian conditions than they were before their displacement from Rafah.
