A high-level source announced that there were intensive Egyptian meetings and contacts that took place during the last hours to resume ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.
Yesterday, Egyptian media quoted the source as saying that Egypt had received positive signals from the Palestinian factions indicating its aspiration for a ceasefire, noting that “the faction leaders informed us that they were seriously and positively studying the truce proposal.”
He added that the intensive Egyptian movements and visits by delegations of the Palestinian factions come to restore the path of Palestinian reconciliation and achieve stability in the Gaza Strip, explaining that the factions will provide their response regarding the truce proposal in the coming days.
The source revealed an Egyptian invitation to the faction leaders to visit Cairo and discuss all the details related to the current situation.
In addition, the leaders of 17 countries called on both Israel and the factions to work to make any final concessions necessary to conclude the ceasefire agreement and release the hostages on the table, as specified by US President Joe Biden.
This came in a joint statement signed yesterday by the leaders of the United States, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Thailand, and the United Kingdom regarding Gaza, expressing their deep concern about the hostages in Gaza.
The joint statement described the wording of this agreement as a necessary starting point at this crucial moment, and would provide comfort to the families of the hostages, as well as to the families of both sides in this conflict and the civilian population.
The statement stressed that the time has come to end the ongoing war, and said, “We, as leaders of countries that are deeply concerned about the hostages held by the factions in Gaza, including many of our citizens, fully support the move towards a ceasefire and the hostage release agreement now presented to the “The table is as set by President Biden.”
The joint statement stressed that this agreement would lead to an immediate ceasefire and the rehabilitation of Gaza, along with security guarantees for Israelis and Palestinians, as well as providing opportunities for a long-term and more sustainable peace and a two-state solution.
