Abu Dhabi Police enhanced awareness of the dangers of the drug scourge and ways to prevent and combat it, in a lecture held by the Protocol and Public Relations Department in cooperation with the Narcotics Control Department, at the Police Officers Club Theater in Al Ain, in the presence of a number of members and the public.
Brigadier Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in the Criminal Security Sector, stressed the need to strengthen the role of community partnership in anti-drug efforts, pointing out the keenness of Abu Dhabi Police, through its ongoing awareness and educational programmes, to make a positive impact on all members of society and prevent young people and adolescents from falling into the clutches of abuse and addiction.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salem Obaid Al Ameri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain Region, explained that the lecture comes within the Department’s interest in raising awareness and security education about the harms of the drug scourge and its negative effects and ways to prevent and confront it in all forms through plans, programs and educational campaigns throughout the year in various educational and social institutions.
The lecture was given by Al-Madani Faisal Khamis Al Dhaheri, Director of the Preventive Program Implementation Branch at the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain, and he presented a number of videos explaining the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police in combating and preventing drugs. It included several topics that included introducing the scourge of drugs, their types and causes of addiction, and an explanation of the most important legislation and laws related to combating them and raising family awareness. And the youth in it.
He stressed the importance of the role of the family as the first line of defense to prevent this deadly scourge and urged positive communication with children by spending time with them and listening to their conversations in a way that ensures they feel confident. He stressed the importance of the combined efforts of all relevant institutions in educating members of society about the dangers of drug abuse and promotion.
He reviewed the most prominent reasons that lead to abuse, such as weak religious faith, family disintegration, and weak control by one of the parents, in addition to psychological disorders among the abuser, sitting with bad friends, not investing his free time in a beneficial way, lack of awareness and understanding of the dangers of drugs, taking various medications and medical drugs without consulting a doctor, and the desire to Experience and curiosity.
