After a month of bad weather, the African anticyclone Scipione arrives in Italy, causing temperatures to skyrocket. Which will reach 40°C in the south of the peninsula over the weekend. This the weather picture outlined by the experts in today’s forecastJune 6.
Summer appetizer, what the experts say
Andrea Garbinato, editorial manager of the site www.iLMeteo.itmeanwhile, confirms the expansion towards Italy of the African anticyclone Scipione with temperatures that will rise up to 8-10°C above the average for the period by the weekend, especially in the maximum values.
In the next few hours we will have a first pulse on the thermometers, with maximums of up to 33°C in Puglia (Taranto), 31-32°C in the rest of the South, up to 29°C also in the North (Bolzano and Forlì) with peaks of 30 °C also in Umbria and Marche. These are not exceptional values but, compared to the last few weeks which were at times cool and often unstable, it will be a ‘summer starter’ across the country.
The real African heat will then spread from Friday 7 June: maximum temperatures of up to 35°C are expected in the South (especially in Sicily and Puglia), up to 32°C in part of the Centre-North (to be noted among the hottest cities of this sector Bolzano, Forlì, Macerata and Terni) even with a lot of heat lurking in the central hours of the day.
The peak of the African heat will be reached in the Centre-North on Saturday, while in the South the heat will continue to the bitter end, or rather it will get worse: meanwhile, on Saturday we will have maximum values of 33°C in the Po Valley, 32-34°C in the Center with 38°C in Sardinia, around 35-36°C widespread in Sicily.
On Sunday, as mentioned, temperatures will at times drop significantly in the Centre-North (for example, Milan 27°C and Ascoli Piceno 32°C), while they will increase strongly in the South: indeed, they will begin to increase, as between Monday and on Wednesday the thermometer will show impressive and even higher numbers.
According to the latest emissions from supercomputers, between Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th June Scipione’s fiery tongue could bring as much as 28°C to 1500 meters between Sicily, Calabria and Salento: with a forecast of this caliber (in meteorology the temperature is also well analysed) at high altitudes above the ground) peaks of 40-41°C are not excluded in the internal areas of these areas, in particular in the provinces of Syracuse, Catania, Messina but locally also in the Palermo area due to drier falling winds.
In short, an extreme picture in the next few days with the African super heat of Scipione, but be careful: with all the ‘thermal’ energy that will also accumulate in the Po Valley, strong thunderstorms are feared in the North as early as Sunday with the arrival of local unstable Atlantic drafts.
Sunday afternoon-evening, with a repeat on Monday, supercell thunderstorms could be recorded with large hail starting from the North-West and gradually moving towards the East. An Italy that would become the land of climatic madness, immediately in June: large hail in the North and 41°C in the South.
On the other hand, heat and hail are two sides of the same coin, hotter and more energy also mean more hail and more storms. And all of this, made even more extreme by the changing climate, by Global Warming for which man is primarily responsible.
