Between this Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Mexico will face extreme weather conditions due to a complex interaction of weather systems. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Conagua, low pressure channels over the southeast and the Yucatán Peninsula, along with humidity from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, will cause significant rains in Chiapas, Oaxaca and Quintana Roo. Isolated rains are expected in Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
Simultaneously, a dry line in the north of the country, in conjunction with a low pressure channel and an out-of-season frontal system will cause showers in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Durango, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí. In addition, winds with gusts of 50 to 70 km/h and the possible formation of tornadoes are anticipated in areas of Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. The Central Table will also be affected by rain and strong winds due to the subtropical jet stream and humidity from both oceans.
For this Thursday, it is expected that low pressure channels and humidity from the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, together with instability at high levels of the atmosphere, cause intense rains and showers in the north, northeast, center and southeast of the country. The heaviest rains will be concentrated in Chiapas, accompanied by electrical shocks and hail of various sizes. Chihuahua and Coahuila also face the possibility of whirlwinds and wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h.
The heat wave will continue to plague the Mexican Republic, with temperatures that will exceed 40°C in 25 states, mainly affecting Baja California, Sonora, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán. In other regions such as Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Durango and Sinaloa, temperatures will range between 40 and 45°C. The extreme hot environment will also impact Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima, Hidalgo, Puebla, Morelos, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Quintana Roo.
The predicted rainfall could generate increases in the levels of rivers and streams, landslides and flooding in low-lying areas of the affected states. It is crucial that the population stay informed and take the necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with these meteorological phenomena.
Finally, wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h and possible dust devils are expected to impact Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas and Durango. Other regions of the country, including Campeche and Yucatán, will also face strong winds and possible whirlwinds or dust devils.
