TOtlético Nacional continues to put together its squad for the second semester, after a first tournament to forget. They failed completely in the Copa Libertadores, in which they did not even pass the qualifying phase: they lost both matches against Nacional of Paraguay (1-0 and 0-3).
Already during the campaign there was a shock measure in Nacional, with the departure of coach Jhon Bodmer and the hiring of Uruguayan Pablo Repetto, runner-up in the 2016 Copa Libertadores with Independiente del Valle.
The greens have already announced the arrival of Edwin Cardona as reinforcement. The midfielder, who was in América de Cali, returns to the club with which he already won the championship and also reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana in 2014.
The club continues working to repatriate two former club players, the goalkeeper David Ospina, the player with the most appearances in the Colombian National Team, World Cup winner in Brazil in 2014 and 2018 and champion with the green in the two leagues in 2007, and Jorman Campuzano, who was already in Nacional in 2018 and who today is part of Boca Juniors.
A former Millonarios player could reach Nacional
Now, the name of a former Millonarios player is in Nacional’s folder. It is worth remembering that, recently, there was a lot of noise with the arrival to the Paisa club of two footballers who were champions with the blues at the time, full-back Andrés Felipe Román and midfielder Jhon Fredy Duque.
According to various press reports, Nacional is very close to hiring Dairon Asprilla, a 32-year-old winger or forward, who has been playing for the Portland Timbers for seven seasons.
Asprilla arrived in the MLS for a second period in 2017, after an unfortunate time at Millonarios, with whom he barely played one semester, the second in 2016: he played 16 League games and one Copa Colombia. He scored two goals.
The following year, thanks to the agreement that Nacional had with Alianza Petrolera, he went on to play for the Barrancabermeja club in 2012 and
that year he achieved promotion. He then spent two seasons in the A and in 2015 he went to Portland.
In American soccer. Asprilla has played 232 games, with 39 goals scored and 21 assists. In the last semester he played 16 games, 7 as a starter, and scored a goal. His most recent game was on May 29, so he would arrive at a competitive pace.
According to journalist Juan Felipe Cadavid, the only thing missing is medical exams for Asprilla to wear green again.
