From off-road vehicle to SUV, practical and modern. This is how the new one looks Opel Frontera, a sport utility that adds to the Blitz range, placing itself between the Mokka and Grandland and above all taking up the legacy of the Crossland. After the online debut, today we are in Milan to discover everything about the new Opel Frontera in preview.
Exterior design
The new compact SUV from the German brand is based on the Smart Car platform, the architecture that also forms the basis of the new Citroen C3 and which will be the starting point of the new Fiat Panda and other future Stellantis models, thus fully exploiting the group’s synergies. It is 4.38 meters long, 17 cm longer than the Crossland. The design is more robust than Opel’s other models, with the Frontier underlining its character almost in continuity with its off-road ancestor. There are therefore more pronounced wheel arches, angular lines and an almost vertical rear to maximize space on board. At the front we find very expressive light clusters, LEDs obviously, with three elements that integrate perfectly into theOpel Vizor, the typical mask of all the latest models of the German brand. The new black Blitz logo also finds its place here and is almost lost in this stylistic element. At the rear we find a small rear window, with the Frontera lettering on the tailgate, almost embraced by the two-element lights with horizontal orientation. The great versatility of the new Opel SUV is evident precisely in its loading capacity, with 450 litres which can become 1,600 liters by folding down the rear seats with a 60:40 split. On the roof you can then use load bars with a static capacity of up to 240 kg. Also interesting is the seven-seater option, which will arrive at a later date, offering, like the Zafira, very useful versatility even for large families.
Interior of the new Opel Frontera
Inside the passenger compartment of the new Opel Frontera we find the layout similar to that of the latest models of the German brand. In fact, they are available across the entire range two 10” screens each, one for the instrument cluster and another for controlling the multimedia features. The steering wheel is also new while the climate controls remain physical. Further down we find the first USB sockets (another 2 are at the rear) and the plate for induction charging of the smartphone. Great attention is also paid to ergonomics with specific seats as well as to the environment with the use of sustainable coverings and smart elements such as the strap for the central cockpit.
Engines
From the point of view of engines, there will be two options available for the new Opel Frontera, an electric version and a hybrid. As for the variant on tap, it will be equipped with a 113 HP engine and a 44 kWh battery for an autonomy close to 300 km, with the future also holding a second version with an autonomy close to 400 km. The Hybrid version, however, with 48 Volt technology, will be offered with two power levels, 100 and 136 HP, both combined with the dual clutch gearbox.
