In Singapore, a man found a creepy fish from the stargazer family
A man filmed a “creepy fish” from the stargazer family while walking on the coast of Singapore. About it reports The Straits Times.
The strange creature was discovered by Dennis Chan, an employee of The Untamed Paths organization, which trains conservationists. He posted footage online in which the fish was completely buried in the sand in shallow water, with only its head with large bulging eyes and a toothy mouth sticking out.
Many users found the appearance of the fish ugly, frightening, and compared its “face” with the muzzle of a French bulldog and Gollum from the novel “The Lord of the Rings” by John Tolkien. Chan admitted that this was the first time he had encountered a representative of the stargazers in person. “Only my head was sticking out of the sand. Stargazers burrow in this way on purpose and wait for prey to swim past,” the specialist explained.

Ichthyologist Tan Heok Hui, approached by The Straits Times for comment, said the fish was “not ugly, but the epitome of a predator lying in wait for its prey.” Chan also said that he posted the video not so that his subscribers would comment on the appearance of the fish, but wanted to show an amazing creature “that evokes feelings of wonder and admiration for nature.”
Stargazers, also called seabirds, are a family of ray-finned fish from the order Draconidae. In total there are more than 50 species, many of which are difficult to distinguish even for specialists. They live in the seas and warm or temperate zones of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Stargazers feed on fish and invertebrates.
Earlier it was reported that in the UK a woman found a mysterious shimmering creature on the beach. It turned out that it was a sea fish.
