The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Tuesday (4) the beginning of a ground incursion into the Al Bureij refugee camp, in the central region of the Gaza Strip, from where it withdrew in January, after weeks of an offensive in the region and subsequent isolated attacks.
In a statement in Hebrew published on X (formerly Twitter), the IDF confirmed a combined operation of air and land forces, the latter acting selectively against Hamas terrorists in the region, guided by intelligence services, according to the text.
The Al Bureij camp is south of the Netzarim corridor, where the IDF remains active and close to where they announced on Tuesday that they had destroyed a Hamas tunnel about 1.5 kilometers long and 23 meters deep.
In late December last year, the IDF entered Al Bureij for weeks, where they found tunnel entrances and facilities used by Hamas to manufacture weapons, according to military reports.
Last March 7, another night raid on this camp and another neighboring one, Nuseirat, lasted one day and involved infantry forces, dozens of tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as two Apache helicopters.
In recent months, the IDF has had to return to several points in the north and center of the Palestinian enclave, from where it had already withdrawn when advancing south, due to the regrouping of members of the terrorist group Hamas and other terrorist factions operating in the Track, like Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
