After the tragedy of the flood of the Natisone river, even the rescuer Marini would have liked to bring good news, not that of a horrible death.
The tragedy of the three boys carried away by the flood of river Natisone, carried by the current just a few days ago, has profoundly shocked everyone. The drama tore two girls and a boy away from their families: Patrizia Cormos, Bianca Doros and Cristian Casian Molnar. Today in the ‘Corriere della Sera’ we read a truly painful interview, that of Emanuel Marini, the Civil Protection volunteer involved in the search for the victims.
Marini is the rescuer who found the lifeless body of Patrizia and who, after the discovery, hugged her parents, obviously shocked by what had happened. She told in the interview how after the terrible news, there was a touching hug, having little strength to exchange a few words. “The parents asked me for confirmation on the appearance of the bracelet and necklace. I described them, and with a nod, they confirmed that they were from Patrizia Cormos.”
Like all rescuers in these cases, Marini also would have liked to bring good news, not that of a horrible death. The body was found in a small cove of about a meter and, fortunately, easily, only after the water level has lowered.
“I saw her sticking her head into a hole. She was on her back, covered in debris”. Marini hoped that she was still alive at that moment, strangely, in an almost paradoxical and absurd way, but three lives so young they couldn’t be swept away like that. The rescuer says:
I went there because they asked me to contribute and because I felt I had to. I was hoping to find people alive. When I saw the girl’s body, I checked her pulse and breathing. Nothing.
This morning the mayor of Premariacco, Michele De Sabato, encouraged rescuers in the search for the last missing young man: “Come on rescuers, let today be the last day of the search to return Cristian to his family”. We have reached the fifth consecutive day of searches for Cristian Casian Molnar, 25 years old, also carried away by the flood of the Natisone river.
The brother of Cristian, who arrived from Austria on Friday, follows the story tirelessly, hosted by the local Red Cross Committee. “We are very believers and we still hope for a miracle.” The young man is in constant contact with his parents, who are in Romania, continuously updating them via video calls on the progress of the research.
But he doesn’t spare angry words there mother of Patrizia:
What pains me the most is that everyone took photos and videos, but no one saved them. Nobody. Maybe they could have saved them. It wasn’t important to make the videos. She had gone for a walk, she called 112 several times. She left her name and address. She said ‘Call my mom’. She was an angel, she studied a lot and worked to support herself. After the exam at the Academy, taken on Friday morning, she called me and told me ‘I did very well, I knew everything’.
