Startup Claros Technologies raised $22 million to destroy “eternal chemicals”
Canadian startup Claros Technologies, specializing in the development of environmentally friendly materials, has raised $22 million to develop technology for the destruction of PFAS – “forever chemicals” reports ESGtoday.
PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl compounds) are considered hazardous chemicals for the planet and humans because they are difficult to remove from the environment. These compounds are found in bags, candy wrappers, cleaning agents, nonstick cookware, paints, varnishes, and sealants.
The company offers environmental solutions based on green chemistry and advanced technologies. They aim to ensure the sustainable and reuse of resources. Claros’ technology filters out PFAS, concentrates it, and then removes its carbon-fluoride bond. The company said its technology has been tested and shown to be effective in destroying compounds in 99.99 percent of all types of PFAS.
Previously, scientists found a link between PFAS and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The study found that the compounds were found in the blood of almost all subjects, which proved that it was impossible to avoid exposure to these chemicals due to their ubiquity.
