The situation at Ducati has become interesting. After a hectic weekend, things took a 180-degree turn for Jorge Martin: he went from being chosen by the Borgo Panigale brand as Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate starting from the 2025 season, after receiving a handshake by a senior company executive, to end up deciding on his farewell, as Motorsport.com reported, after Ducati panicked over Marc Marquez’s reaction and his refusal to join Pramac Racing.
Thus, last Monday, while the official MotoGP tests were taking place at Mugello, the rider from San Sebastián de los Reyes was officially signed by Aprilia, as a replacement for his good friend Aleix Espargaró and with a multi-year contract, which will begin next season.
This is therefore the beginning of the end of a soap opera that has made the premier class hot since 2024. With the world championship leader traveling to Noale, all that remains is for Ducati to move and announce who will join the reigning world champion.
This will happen as soon as possible, according to Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse. The well-known Venetian engineer commented this Monday, while the whole earthquake was taking place within the company, that they will announce the chosen one “as soon as possible”. A move that almost obviously aims at Marc Marquez, given that Enea Bastianini has now also moved in the direction of KTM, as his manager Carlo Pernat also admitted.
“Clearly it is not easy to conclude an agreement and we are working on it. We will certainly make an announcement as soon as possible, but I cannot give a date,” Dall’Igna told the official MotoGP website.
