Rosignano toll booth accident
Rosignano accident, the toll collector’s story: “I saw a car arrive suddenly, in the violent collision, one of the cars literally flew into the vehicle in front”
The toll collector speaks for the first time about the accident Rosignano that on June 2nd onA12 he saw three people die. Six others were injured. The man, a 44-year-old from Cecina, has a very vivid image of what happened from his hospital bed and can be said to be lucky, given that he was only slightly injured in the head.
“I saw a car suddenly arrive at the toll booth,” are his words reported to La Nazione by Mirko Ricciuti, hospital health disaster manager of the Livorno emergency room – while two others were stopped at the automatic checkout. In the violent collision, one of the cars literally flew into the vehicle in front of it, knocking down the toll booth.”
According to the police reconstruction, based on cameras and photographs of the motorway barrier, the accident was caused by an illness or mechanical failure involving a 61 year old German driving one Honda and coming from the North towards Rome. The man, who later died together with his wife who was with him in the car and a 21 year old who was in a Fiat 500, would then have collided at high speed with a group of cars stopped at the A12 barrier, also causing the destruction of the toll booth itself. Among the injured there are also two little brothers aged 3 and 6.
