The use of the colors of the Brazilian flag was encouraged by the organization of the event as a claim for national symbols
The traditional rainbow colors that represent the LGBT movement gave way to green and yellow in the 28th Pride Parade, held this Sunday (June 2, 2024) in the city of São Paulo.
The use of the characteristic tones of the Brazilian flag was encouraged by the organization of the event as a way for the group to claim national symbols.

The use of yellow-green is also associated with the movement’s demand for space in the National Congress. The theme of the parade this year was “Enough of Negligence and Setbacks in the Legislature: vote consciously for the rights of the LGBT+ population”. It is a reaction to the majority election of deputies and senators aligned with conservatism and the right – who tend to associate themselves with the colors.
“The yellow-green flag had been appropriated by the most regressive wing of society, the one that uses love for the country as a disguise to propagate hatred.”, declared the SP stop, which organizes the event. The NGO called on participants to use the colors in a post on their Instagram on May 6th.
In the images of the event, it is possible to see that the colors of the Brazilian flag were widely used, whether in the National Team’s shirts, stylized clothes and makeup or adornments, such as fans and hats. Drag queen Pabblo Vittar, one of the main attractions of the Parade, performed her show dressed in green and yellow.
