The preparations for the Abu Dhabi Women’s Sports Club team, the champion of the Emirates Women’s Football League, have begun to participate in the competitions of the first edition of the Women’s AFC Champions League for the 2024-2025 season, which begins next August in its first phase, as the Golden Team’s participation comes after its coronation. The women’s football league title for the current season is a continuation of the brilliance of the founder and home of Emirati and Gulf women’s football, amid great interest from the club’s board of directors and its senior leadership, with the support and sponsorship of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the attention of the Football Association.
Sarah Hassanein, coach of the Abu Dhabi Sports Club women’s football team, confirmed that the AFC has set the dates for the first tournament and the criteria for participation, as it is expected that the edition will witness strong competitions to win the first title and that the competition will begin its preliminary round during the period from 25 to 31 August next, where the matches will be held in a pool system. The number of participating clubs and the location of hosting the tournament will be determined.
The group stage competitions will witness the participation of 12 clubs, which will be divided into three groups, with each group containing four teams. These clubs will compete in 18 matches held over three rounds in a divided league system of one stage, during the period from 6 to 12 October, and will qualify. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, advance to the knockout rounds.
The competitions will resume by holding the quarter-final matches on March 22 and 23, 2025, so that the matches will be held in one round, and a draw will be held in order to determine the four matches in this round, and in the decisive stage, the semi-final and final competitions of the AFC Women’s Champions League will be held in a group system. From one round, the matches will be held from May 21 to May 24, 2025.
She added that the Abu Dhabi Sports Club team is the third Arab club to date to guarantee its participation in the first edition of the AFC Women’s Champions League, after the Saudi Al-Nasr and the Jordanian Al-Ittihad, and that there are the Japanese clubs Urawa Reds, the Australian Melbourne City, the Indian Odisha, the Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh City, and the Taichung Blue. Taiwanese.
On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi Sports Club women’s football team is participating in the West Asian Championship, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia during the first week of next November.
