Mogadishu (Al-Ittihad)
Yesterday, the Somali army announced the implementation of a military operation in cooperation with American forces against the strongholds of the so-called ISIS terrorist organization in the state of Puntland in northeastern Somalia. The Somali National News Agency (SONA) reported that the joint operation consisted of launching an air strike against the organization’s camps in Burri Governorate, as part of the ongoing military operations in the country to eliminate terrorist organizations. The agency added that the Somali government will later announce the toll of those killed and wounded among ISIS as a result of the air strike.
In addition, yesterday, the Somali National Security and Intelligence Service forces arrested individuals who had business dealings with the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement. The National Intelligence Service issued a warning to merchants and businessmen against underestimating terrorist attempts to steal their wealth and then using that wealth to kill the Somali people. The statement said: “The National Intelligence Service is responsible for the protection and safety of Somali citizens, so citizens are advised to stay away from contact and places where terrorists are present.”
It is noteworthy that the Somali army, in cooperation with local forces and international partners, continues to carry out planned military operations to eliminate the remnants of the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement linked to Al-Qaeda in central and southern Somalia, as part of efforts to eliminate terrorism.
