The head of the Fujairah Fishermen’s Association, Mahmoud Hassan Suleiman Al Ali, revealed that the Fujairah Environment Authority had allocated an area for drying fish in the emirate, relatively far from residential areas, stressing that the fishermen complied with the laws and procedures used in drying fish during the period permitted for fishing of “Awma” and “fish” fish. “Wild”, without causing the spread of annoying odors to residential areas located near the beaches.
Al Ali said that the new area designated for drying fish will contribute to improving the quality of dried fish, and limit any negative effects that may result from drying operations near residential areas, noting that a meeting was held with the fishermen and “Nawakhatha” of the emirate and making them aware of the importance of following proper procedures in The drying process, and catching quantities proportionate to the fishermen’s mechanisms and drying areas.
He stressed that despite the high temperatures and the decrease in fishing trips during the recent period, there is an abundance of fish being caught, pointing out that this abundance has contributed to enhancing the income of fishermen and supporting local markets, factories and restaurants specializing in seafood.
Al Ali pointed out that the Emirate of Fujairah is distinguished by its fish wealth and the abundance of different types of fish during the summer, due to its sea being characterized by depths that reach 500 metres, and attracting many types of fish, which has attracted a large number of tourists and fishing enthusiasts to the region during the past days. Fujairah has emerged as a distinguished destination.
On the other hand, the Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, Asila Abdullah Al-Mualla, confirmed that the Authority is constantly seeking to develop environmental policies specialized in marine activities that serve the citizens of the Emirate of Fujairah, as it supports fishermen, protects coral reefs and marine life, and regulates fishing licenses and the correct methods that must be followed in accordance with best practices. International, in addition to organizing eco-tourism operations, including pleasure boats and other marine means, and recreational and commercial activities, with the aim of preserving fish and animal wealth.
Al-Mualla said that the Authority has an operations room specialized in monitoring and following up on many environmental activities, as well as field teams that work to reduce any irresponsible phenomena or practices that may threaten food and environmental security.
