What initially looked like a suicide turned out to be murder. The investigators’ main suspect is the deceased’s partner.
Vigonza – On the night of Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the body of a woman was discovered on the A4 motorway near Vigonza, Padua. The incident was originally classified as a suicide. However, the deceased’s partner is now the focus of the investigation. He is said to have pushed his partner, 34-year-old Giada Z., off a motorway bridge, after which she was hit by a truck.
The person killed on the A4 motorway is a 34-year-old mother from Brescia
Giada Z. was originally from Brescia, but had been living in Vigonza with her son and partner for two years. She was known for her love of tattoos and was about to start a new job. Her partner, Andrea F. (39), worked as a truck driver. He was arrested on suspicion of the premeditated murder of his partner. According to reports from friends and family of Giada Z., the relationship between the two had been very strained recently.
Investigators believe that Giada Z. was a victim of domestic violence. According to a report by the The Venetian Corriere According to reports, traces of blows were found on the dead woman’s arms, which were apparently inflicted before her death. These could therefore be signs of domestic violence. Especially since the investigators found bruises on the body of Andrea F., the alleged perpetrator, and abrasions on her wrists. These could be the result of the woman trying to defend herself against her partner’s attack.
Crime shocks Italy: According to friends of the dead woman, her partner is said to have been violent several times
There is also speculation that domestic violence had been going on in the relationship for some time. A friend of the victim told investigators that Giada Z. was afraid of her partner, particularly because of his jealousy of her friendship with another man. According to another witness, the 39-year-old was violent towards Giada Z. on several occasions and there were “at least two cases” in which “he grabbed her by the neck.”
Could this also have been one of the reasons why Giada Z. cancelled the wedding that was planned for September? A friend of the alleged perpetrator reported on the canceled wedding in the broadcaster’s program “La vita in diretta” RAI1“She called off her wedding because she didn’t want to do it anymore,” he reported. According to friends of Giada Z., she had already told Andrea F. that she wanted to end the relationship. She could not imagine that the 34-year-old committed suicide. Especially since “she was very attached to her child,” the news portal quoted sky tg24. one of Giada Z’s friends
The victim’s family, however, does not appear to have noticed any signs of domestic violence. “There were arguments, as with all couples, but (she) never told us that he had been violent or that the situation was serious,” the deceased’s brother explained to the The Venetian Corriere.
Woman found dead on highway – autopsy to provide information on exact course of events
On the evening of the crime, Giada Z. is said to have left the house in her car after an argument, reports sky tg24Andrea F. is believed to have followed her and caught up with her at the A4 overpass. The further course of events – for example, whether she was knocked unconscious before being thrown from the bridge – is still unclear. An autopsy should now provide clarity.
The crime has caused a stir in Italy and sparked a debate about domestic violence and women’s safety. “Violence against women is a heinous crime. We are dealing with a trail of blood that we cannot and do not want to consider endless,” said Luca Zaia, Governor of Veneto. (sp)
