Probable showers were forecast in the afternoon and right between the end of the Formula 4 free practice and those of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia the sky of Imola began to drip. Shortly after the 911 GT3 Cups went into action to inaugurate the second round of the season, the definitive pouring rain arrived.
Nothing accomplished, therefore, in the 60 minutes of testing which would have helped the 33 protagonists to get the necessary references on the Santerno track in view of tomorrow’s qualifying and race 1, for which completely dry conditions are currently expected .
At this point, qualifying will be even more fundamental, not only for the starting grids but also to be able to find a solution with the set-up and the real feeling with the track and car.
The only one who ran with a certain consistency on rain tires in free practice, interspersed with a couple of red flags as the conditions further worsened, was Gianmarco Quaresmini (Tsunami RT), but right at the last minute the inevitable Larry arrived. Ten Voorde set the best time of the day: a 2’00″063 which this time has a truly relative value (even if in the end he is always in the lead…).
The reigning Fulgenzi Racing champion preceded the Target Competition duo of Marvin Klein and Janne Stiak, 1 second behind, Quaresmini and Aldo Festante (Dinamic Motorsprot), while among the protagonists of the Michelin Cup was Alex De Giacomi (Tsunami RT) to stand out.
In any case, only 18 of the 33 drivers at the start put together at least one timed lap (and for many it was just an “exploratory” lap) and therefore everything is postponed until tomorrow (Saturday): it will be a key day in Imola for the Carrera Cup, which stages qualifying starting at 9.00 and race 1 in the afternoon: traffic lights ready at 3.20 pm with live coverage (also in free mode) on Dazn and live streaming in HD on www.carreracupitalia.it.
