Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip in focus of war in Israel: Mission near Jabalia completed
The mission in the east of the city has been completed, the army announced on Friday. Hundreds of terrorists are said to have been killed in close combat and air strikes, among other things. According to the army, the bodies of seven Israelis who were killed in the terrorist attack by the Islamist group on October 7 were found during operations on the ground in recent weeks. Hamas were abducted to the Gaza Strip.
The military also destroyed a good ten kilometers of tunnels and found hundreds of weapons and several weapons production sites. This information could not initially be independently verified.
War in Israel and Gaza: Rafah border crossing will not be opened after all
The Hamas attack is now more than seven months in the past. Israel responded to the attack with large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The tense situation in the war in Israel and Gaza has become increasingly tense in recent weeks. Most recently, there was discussion about whether the closed border crossing at Rafah in the Gaza Strip could be reopened. Now Egypt has reported an agreement to reopen it, according to the Egyptian state-run TV station Al-Kahira News rejected as false.
“Egypt insists on a complete Israeli withdrawal from the border crossing as a condition for resuming its work,” it said, citing a high-ranking, unnamed source. Previously, the Israeli Can-Broadcaster reports that the two countries have agreed to reopen the border crossing for the transport of humanitarian aid. The agreement was reached under pressure from the USA, it was said. The border crossing to Egypt in the city in the south of the coastal region was closed a good three weeks ago after the Israeli army took over the Palestinian side.
Hostage deal in the war in Israel and Gaza – tied to the end of the fighting
Meanwhile, talks on a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas are continuing. According to mediators, the terror group will only return to the negotiating table for talks on a hostage deal if Israel stops fighting. They are ready for a “full agreement” on the release of the hostages kidnapped from Israel in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the terror organization said in a statement on Thursday.
However, a prerequisite for a hostage agreement is an end to the war in Israel and Gaza. In that case, they are prepared to continue negotiations and reach a “comprehensive exchange agreement”. Israel’s government, however, categorically rejects an end to the war. The unnamed official told the news site Ynetthat the terrorist group’s attitude was “delusional”.
