Ryanair flight FR3938 which left Bologna’s Guglielmo Marconi airport this morning at 10am and headed to the Belgian Charleroi airport was landed in Luxembourg around 11.30am due, as far as we know, to a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters were also on board. The passengers were let off and are currently waiting for a bus that will be made available to them by the low-cost airline to reach Brussels.
«I was sleeping and then when I opened my eyes suddenly I saw all the stewardesses running towards the back of the plane. At that point I knew something was wrong. Then we started smelling something sour and they told us we were going to make an emergency landing. There was no panic, but there was total silence on board, until we landed in Luxembourg and the firefighters arrived and put out the fire that came from the kitchens.” This is how a passenger on Ryanair flight FR3938 tells the story of the mishap at Ansa. «We didn’t really understand what burned, they told us that not even the hostesses understood it initially. You could only see the smoke and there was a stench”, says the passenger, who lives and works in Bologna and was headed to Belgium for a weekend holiday. Despite the problem on board, the passengers on the flight did not lose their calm. «Only when the firefighters arrived did we panic a bit, because we realized that we had taken a risk. At the airport they told us that there were technical problems, but no one explained to us exactly what had happened.”
Once on the ground, shortly after 11.30, the airport assistants announced that the airline would provide a bus to reach Charleroi. “But we didn’t know the times well, they kept moving the arrival time later and later, because the bus would probably have had to arrive from Belgium and we would have had to wait for hours.” So many passengers went to the station to take a train directly to Brussels. Subsequently, around 1.30pm, Ryanair announced via a message that 4 coaches would arrive at the airport at 1.45pm to take passengers to the Charleroi airport which is about an hour’s drive from the Belgian capital.
